In order to create a web site you need to book a domain name. e.g. www.scientica.com. There are quite a few domain name registrars who offers various services along with domain names. Typically top level domain names are dot com (.com), dot net (.net), dot org (.org) and country top level domain such as dot in (.in). Before booking you can perform a WHOIS search to see whether the name you are trying to book is available for booking against your name. The cost of a top level domain name such as .com etc. is Rs.450/- per year. However, it may vary from registrar to registrar.

There are many other extensions available such as .info, .biz, .co.in, etc. If in case the name you are looking for is not available then you may also book either of the other extensions available.

You need to remember that a domain booking is done for certain number of years e.g. one year, two years, three years and so on. You need to create a reminder to renew the booking since if you fail to renew it in timely manner it may be hacked by some on else.
